PRIVACY NOTICE

This record describes the handling of information produced when an unregistered observer accesses, navigates, or communicates with the archive. Access does not require the observer to establish an identity. Personally attributable information enters the record only where it is supplied directly by the observer, or where it is processed by the infrastructure providers identified below in the ordinary course of delivering the pages. An unidentified observer and an absent observer are not equivalent states.

The archive does not operate an account system, a login, a comment channel, or a payment channel. No advertising or profiling technology is installed.

Two categories of information exist. The first is technical information generated automatically by the delivery of a web page, including the requesting network address, the browser and device characteristics transmitted by the observer’s software, the requested address, and the time of the request. This information is processed by the hosting infrastructure in order to serve the page and to maintain operational security. It is not used by the Archive Administration to identify the observer.

The second is information supplied deliberately. Information supplied through a correspondence channel — presently the electronic mail address published in section 10 — becomes a voluntary correspondence record. Such a record contains what the sender chose to include: a return address, a name where given, and the content of the message. No personal designation is required for ordinary observation.

The archive does not knowingly collect precise location data, biometric data, financial data, or special categories of personal data.

The archive operates no advertising, profiling or analytics service. A limited non-identifying project-continuity state may be retained locally within the observer’s browser after associated project links are activated. This state contains no identity, timestamp, visit count, reading history or document activity, is not transmitted to Archive Administration, and may be removed by clearing site data.

Opening and closing individual records is not retained. The limited project-continuity state described above is the only archive-controlled persistent browser state. Any further storage strictly necessary for the delivery of the pages is handled by the hosting infrastructure identified in section 05.

Technical information is processed for the sole purposes of delivering the requested pages, maintaining availability, and preventing abuse or malicious access. No reading state is retained. Voluntary correspondence is processed only to read, consider, and respond to the message sent, and to comply with any legal obligation that applies to it.

Technical request information is processed on the basis of the controller’s legitimate interest in operating and securing the archive. Voluntary correspondence is processed on the basis of the controller’s legitimate interest in receiving and responding to communications. Where retention or disclosure is required by law, processing is based on compliance with a legal obligation.

The archive is hosted and delivered by third-party hosting and content delivery infrastructure, which necessarily processes network addresses and request metadata in order to transmit the pages. Observer interaction may be retained as part of the access history maintained by that infrastructure. No visitor information is transmitted to or stored in any database operated for the archive, and no analytics, advertising, or tracking service is engaged.

Electronic mail sent to the published address is received and stored by the corresponding email provider. No information is sold, and none is shared for advertising purposes. Information may be disclosed where disclosure is required by applicable law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim. Hosting, delivery, and email providers may process information in the jurisdictions where their own infrastructure operates, under the safeguards their own terms require.

Retention is determined by the category and purpose of the corresponding record. Technical request information is retained by the hosting infrastructure only for the operational and security periods those providers apply. Voluntary correspondence is retained for as long as the correspondence remains relevant, and thereafter for any period required by law. No reading state is retained on the reader’s device.

Depending on the observer’s jurisdiction, the observer may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent in relation to personal information held about them. These rights are not absolute and may be limited by applicable law.

A request for access, correction, or removal must contain sufficient information to locate the relevant record. Requests are directed to the contact in section 10. An observer who considers a request improperly handled may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

The archive is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person below the age of majority in their jurisdiction. A parent or guardian who believes such information has been supplied may request its removal using the contact in section 10, and it will be deleted.

This record may be corrected, superseded, or revised without prior notice where practice, infrastructure, or law changes. The revision value in the register above identifies the current version. Continued access after a revision constitutes acknowledgement of the revised record.

This archive is independently maintained and is not issued by a governmental, statutory, investigative or medical authority. “Archive Administration” identifies an internal administrative function used within the archive and does not represent a public body.
